Thought for the Week

We spend years building careers and businesses, but often forget the stories that built us. Sometimes the best schedule is simply not having one.

I always value feedback & questions. Write to me at [email protected].

Hope you've had a great week & wishing those celebrating a blessed and joyous Diwali 🙏🏼🎇

This Week's Insights🎙️

Last week, we had a last-minute trip for multiple reasons, and we actually ended up travelling to India for a week or so.

During that trip, we made a last-minute decision to visit a place we've been wanting to go for a very long time - a city called Kota.

The reason for wanting to visit Kota for so long is that it's the hometown and birthplace of my father, and a place where my grandparents spent over 30 years.

It was a full-circle moment for my father, being back after 30+ years with his parents and children, going around the place that had taught him the fundamentals of his speciality that he still uses in his business every day.

Now, despite being a holiday, he was still working away, on different client calls, attending a course for another certification, and helping his team where needed.

The point I'm getting to is that, although it was a holiday, it didn't always feel like one. As an entrepreneur, I know it is always difficult to just switch off and let things run, but sometimes that could be the 1 thing holding your team back from growth.

Equally, the time away from work, we spent exploring this beautiful city, went around the different areas my grandparents & father had been to growing up, and heard interesting & inspiring stories from relatives that they had known for 50+ years!

It's very easy to stay switched on all the time, especially with the pace that things are changing at the moment, but every once in a while, it's good to switch from looking into the future to going back to the simpler past.

Time will always be there for you to work on something else, but make sure to give quality time to yourself, too.

Practical Tips ✅

  1. Schedule a “no-laptop day”: Once a month, take a full day away from screens. Reflect, journal, or just be. You’ll return sharper, not slower.

  2. Work in silence: Don’t just plan your workweek, plan your pauses. Quiet time often brings the loudest clarity.

  3. Learn one family story: Ask someone older in your family about their first job, first risk, or first win. You’ll find lessons in simplicity, grit, and resilience that no business book can teach.
