Thought for the Week

Integration beats innovation every time. Before you sign up for that shiny new software, ask yourself: Will this solve a real problem, or am I just avoiding the work of optimising what I already have?

I always value feedback & questions. Write to me at [email protected].

This Week's Insights🎙️

As I've started working with more clients over the past 6 months, I've been fascinated by each of their combination of tools used across the business, otherwise known as their "Tech Stack". I found that each business had certain ones in common (both AI and non-AI driven), but how their set up was incredibly different and customised using features I hadn't even thought of.

This got me thinking about my own tech stack, and how many tools I use on a daily basis as a business owner. What started as a simple folder on my phone with 3-4 apps has now become an overflowing collection of folders, with so many apps that it's hard to remember what you used and when - but all are important in their own respect.

Taking things a step back however, I fear I may have brought this onto myself without realising. This is because one criteria I always considered when setting up the business, was that the app should exist on browser & mobile, enabling me to have access 24/7/365, with or without a laptop.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the tools you use to run your business matter, but what's more important is how intentionally you've chosen and integrated them to make your operations, client and staff experience as smooth as possible.

When you consider taking on a new software, consider it as an essential "team member" that will help you build a sustainable system that supports your strategy, execution, and long-term goals.

Every new tool should solve a clear problem or simplify a process, not add more complexity. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a bloated, expensive setup that no one uses properly and becomes very costly to maintain.

Remember, less is more.

Practical Tips ✅

  1. Audit Your Stack: List every software tool you're using. Cancel or consolidate any overlapping functionalities.

  2. Map the Workflow: Identify how data moves between tools. Look for gaps, inefficiencies, or manual handoffs.

  3. Start with Strategy: Only add tools after defining the business objective and processes they’re meant to support.
