Thought for the Week

A good strategy can fail just as fast with a bad team structure. Until every person owns a purpose and knows what their metrics of success look like, your marketing will feel scattered.

I always value feedback & questions. Write to me at [email protected].

This Week's Insights🎙️

Many entrepreneurs assume their marketing isn’t working because of things like the message, ads, or content. However, I have often noticed that it’s not only the lack of strategy, but also the team structure.

Without a proper, well-defined structure, the strategist ends up drowning in execution, and your marketing efforts appear scattered across the channels that you use. Simply speaking, everyone ends up working hard, but no one is truly held accountable.

The fix to this common problem isn’t to hire a huge team. It’s to ensure the right people own the right outcomes, all connected by a clear system. This keeps everything aligned, and systems and automation to make it all scale.

When each of the roles is clearly defined (even if spread across freelancers or part-timers), everything sharpens.

Remember, structure doesn’t just support growth, it creates it.

Practical Tips ✅

  1. Map core functions: Identify the 4–5 core marketing functions your business needs and assign clear ownership (even if it’s shared).

  2. Run a role clarity session: Ask your team: What are you owning? What decisions are you responsible for? What’s not yours? You’ll be surprised by how many gaps you uncover.

  3. Document your rhythm: Weekly meetings, campaign reviews, content sprints - see how they connect strategy with execution.

Did You Know? 🧠

HubSpot, now a $20B+ company, started its marketing team with an approach considered very different to the norm.

Instead of hiring based on titles, they assigned each person a core function, which were things like: content creation, conversion optimisation, and lead nurturing.

Lessons > Wins

Everyone talks about their wins, but perhaps the ultimate wins are the lessons learned from the mistakes that are kept away from the spotlight.
